Mum astounded after finding giant nine-inch fish finger that’s ‘as big as her head’

Feeding your children at dinner time is undeniably challenging – let alone when the little ones are fighting.

After coming across a jaw-dropping nine-inch fish finger, the children of mum Shamima Trice were quick to fight over the item.

The fish finger was so big that it left her daughters – Destiny, six, and Ivy-Mae, four, arguing over would get to eat it at dinner time.

On Thursday, 7 July, Shamima, 25, opened the box of £1.75 Heron Food’s value fish fingers to accompany some love heart potatoes and veg.

The carer says the find gave her a good laugh and she took a selfie with it next to her face and shared the photo on Facebook.

Shamima, from Bourne, Lincolnshire, explained how she couldn’t believe her eyes when she pulled out the long fish stick that was as big as her head.

She said: “I went to put them in the oven and I was just like, ‘Oh my God, look at the size of this fish finger’.

“It was huge, about the size of a TV remote. It was a good nine inches at least.

“It made me laugh. I had to take a picture of course with it next to my head. It was as big as.”

After the unusual ordeal – that initially caused excitement amongst her kids – Shamima was forced chop it in half so that both got to try it.

She continued: “The kids were fighting over who got it. They were going ‘can I have it? Can I have it?’ so I had to cut it in half to make it a normal fish finger.

“I said ‘sorry to disappoint but you’ve got two large ones now’ – all of the rest were normal size.

“The fish fingers were from Heron Foods. Me and the kids went to pick some bits up after school so I asked what they wanted and they said fish fingers so we got the big, ultra, XXL, value pack with about 25 fish fingers in.

“I didn’t see the really big one because it was covered by the packaging on the front so I had no idea.

“We shop at places that have offers on with everything going up. We get what we can when we can and if you have a laugh along the way then it’s a bonus.”

A Heron spokesman said: “Must have been some fish to have a finger like that!

“We always say there’s amazing bargains to be had in our XSELL range and this doesn’t disappoint. Great find Shamima, hope there’s enough room in your freezer.”

This isn’t the first unusually large product that Shamima has come across in her time.

Just a few days previous, she stumbled across a super-sized and “ginormous” cabbage.

The mum-of-two described how the vegetable was “definitely bigger” than her head.

“I live in a block of four flats and the lady downstairs is lovely. She takes the bins out and does BBQs for everyone,” she said.

“I got a knock on the door, it was her partner saying they’d had loads of fruit and veg that they weren’t going to use this weekend and asked if I wanted any for dinner on Sunday, so I said that would be lovely.

“He came up with it and it was huge. I couldn’t believe the size of it. I took a photo of it using my head for reference and posted it on Facebook.

“The cabbage was ginormous, it was definitely bigger than my head and it was really heavy.

“People were saying ‘oh my God, where did you get that?’

“The cabbage lasted a good three or four days. We made a big Sunday dinner then the hamster made a lot of use out of it.”
